Why Most Buyers Get the Comparison Wrong
The most expensive mistake: Skipping the sample test entirely and trusting supplier marketing claims. Unsellable stock from a failed batch costs far more than any sample order. The fix is not expensive — skipping it is.
The most common testing mistake is evaluating a fragrance oil on a paper strip in isolation. Paper does not have skin chemistry, body heat, or the natural oils and pH variation that change how a perfume oil behaves over time. A fragrance oil that smells identical on paper can smell noticeably different on skin — and the gap usually shows in the heart and base phases, not the opening.
The second mistake is smelling the identical fragrance oil alone, without the original next to it. Your nose has no reference point. The 5-Step Comparison Method

The base notes — the dry down phase from roughly hour four onward — decide the whole product. This is what the customer smells when they have been wearing the fragrance oil all day. It is the phase that determines whether they buy again.
