Basil Essential Oil is steam-distilled from the fresh leaves and flowering tops of Ocimum basilicum, a member of the Lamiaceae (mint) family native to India and cultivated across the tropics. Indian basil oil is typically the methyl chavicol (estragole) chemotype, giving it a bolder, more anisic character than the softer linalool-rich European type.

Aroma: sweet, spicy and fresh-herbaceous, with a distinctive anise/liquorice-like note from methyl chavicol and a faint woody-balsamic backnote. Bright and penetrating on opening, softening into a warm herbal heart.

Uses: in perfumery basil adds green-aromatic freshness to fougere, chypre and citrus-aromatic compositions and is a classic partner to lavender, clary sage and citrus. In aromatherapy it is valued as an uplifting, clarifying oil that supports focus and eases mental fatigue. Also used in natural soaps, candles, diffusers and room sprays.

  • Botanical name: Ocimum basilicum L.
  • Plant part / method: leaves & flowering tops, steam distillation
  • Key constituents: methyl chavicol (estragole), linalool, 1,8-cineole, eugenol
  • Note / family: top-to-heart - herbal, green, aromatic
  • Blends well with: bergamot, lavender, clary sage, lemon, lime, neroli, rosemary, clove bud, eucalyptus, juniper

Safety: estragole content is IFRA-restricted - formulate within limits; always dilute before skin use and avoid during pregnancy.

Available in 100gm, 500gm, 1kg & 5kg. 100% pure, undiluted essential oil - no carriers, no synthetics.
