Bitter Orange Oil is cold-pressed from the peel of the bitter (Seville) orange, Citrus aurantium var. amara (Rutaceae) - the same tree that gives us neroli (flowers) and petitgrain (leaves). Grown in Spain, Italy, Tunisia and India, its fruit is too bitter to eat but prized for its peel oil.

Aroma: fresh, dry and sparkling citrus - crisper, drier and more bitter-tart than sweet orange, with a subtle floral-bitter orange-blossom nuance and a clean aromatic edge. Elegant and less sugary than sweet orange.

Uses: the classic opening note of eau de cologne and a refined citrus top note in chypre, fougere and citrus-aromatic perfumery, pairing naturally with neroli and petitgrain. In aromatherapy it is uplifting and clarifying. Also used in soaps, candles, diffusers, room sprays and natural cleaning.

  • Botanical name: Citrus aurantium L. var. amara
  • Plant part / method: fresh peel, cold pressing
  • Key constituents: limonene (~90%), myrcene, linalool, beta-pinene, decanal
  • Note / family: top - citrus, dry, fresh
  • Blends well with: neroli, petitgrain, bergamot, lavender, rosemary, clary sage, vetiver, oakmoss, musk

Safety: expressed bitter orange oil is phototoxic - respect IFRA limits in leave-on products and avoid sun exposure after skin use; keep fresh and dilute.

Available in 100gm, 500gm, 1kg & 5kg. 100% pure, undiluted essential oil - no carriers, no synthetics.
