Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil is steam-distilled from the leaves of the true (Ceylon) cinnamon tree, Cinnamomum zeylanicum (syn. C. verum, Lauraceae), grown in Sri Lanka and southern India. Where the bark oil is dominated by sweet cinnamaldehyde, the leaf oil is dominated by eugenol - which makes it closer in character to clove, and far more economical.

Aroma: warm, spicy and phenolic - a clove-like character with a lighter cinnamon warmth, slightly harsher and less sweet than bark oil. Strong, dry and diffusive.

Uses: the economical spicy note of choice for soaps, candles, incense, room fragrance and natural insect-repellent products, and a useful component of spicy-oriental and carnation accords in perfumery (at low levels). In aromatherapy it is warming and stimulating.

  • Botanical name: Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume (syn. C. verum J.Presl)
  • Plant part / method: leaves, steam distillation
  • Key constituents: eugenol (70-85%), benzyl benzoate, linalool, cinnamaldehyde (low), beta-caryophyllene
  • Note / family: heart-to-base - warm spicy, phenolic
  • Blends well with: orange, clove, nutmeg, black pepper, ylang ylang, benzoin, frankincense, cedarwood, patchouli

Safety: high eugenol - IFRA-restricted sensitiser; always dilute to low levels and avoid in pregnancy.

Available in 100gm, 500gm, 1kg & 5kg. 100% pure, undiluted essential oil - no carriers, no synthetics.
