Clary Sage Essential Oil is steam-distilled from the flowering tops and leaves of Salvia sclarea (Lamiaceae), a tall biennial herb native to the Mediterranean and cultivated in France, Russia, Bulgaria and northern India. It is the natural source of sclareol, the molecule that gives it an ambery depth and from which the ambergris-like material Ambrox is derived.

Aroma: sweet, herbaceous and tea-like with a soft, winey-fruity nuance and a warm, dry ambery-musky depth. Smooth, hay-like and slightly nutty - quite unlike common culinary sage.

Uses: a cornerstone of fougere, chypre, amber and tobacco perfumery, where it bridges lavender-like sweetness and ambery warmth and brings genuine fixative value. In aromatherapy it is the great euphoric, relaxing oil - used for stress, tension and low mood and a classic in women's wellness blends. Also used in skin and scalp care, soaps, candles and diffusers.

Recommended dosage Perfumery: 0.5-5% depending on oil; Aromatherapy topical blends: 0.5-2% (skin); Diffusion: 2-8 drops per 100 ml water.

Warnings Generally non-irritating and well tolerated when diluted. Traditionally avoided during pregnancy; can be deeply relaxing / euphoric - avoid before driving and with alcohol. For external use only. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
