Lime Essential Oil is obtained from the small, intensely aromatic Key lime, Citrus aurantifolia (Rutaceae), grown in Mexico, Peru, the West Indies and India. It is produced either by cold-pressing the peel (brighter, truer to the fresh fruit, but phototoxic) or by steam distillation of the crushed fruit (sweeter, slightly candied and not phototoxic) - the two grades differ in character and safety.

Aroma: sharp, fresh and zesty - a crisp, tart, sweet-sour lime-peel citrus with a clean, slightly green and sparkling character. Sharper and drier than lemon.

Uses: the signature note of classic lime colognes and a bright opener in fougere, aquatic and masculine perfumery. In aromatherapy it is energising and refreshing, used for fatigue and mental sluggishness. Widely used in soaps, candles, natural cleaners and room sprays, and food-grade lime oil is a major beverage and confectionery flavour.

  • Botanical name: Citrus aurantifolia (Christm.) Swingle
  • Plant part / method: peel (cold pressing) or whole crushed fruit (steam distillation)
  • Key constituents: limonene (45-60%), beta-pinene, gamma-terpinene, citral, alpha-terpineol (higher in distilled grade)
  • Note / family: top - citrus, fresh, tart
  • Blends well with: lemon, grapefruit, bergamot, ginger, basil, lavender, neroli, vetiver, cedarwood, coconut-type notes

Safety: expressed lime oil is phototoxic (respect IFRA limits in leave-on products; avoid sun exposure); distilled lime oil is not. Keep fresh and dilute.

Available in 100gm, 500gm, 1kg & 5kg. 100% pure, undiluted essential oil - no carriers, no synthetics.
