Litsea Cubeba Essential Oil, known in perfumery as May Chang, is steam-distilled from the small, pepper-like fruits of Litsea cubeba (Lauraceae), an evergreen tree native to China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia and cultivated commercially in China and India. One of the richest natural sources of citral.

Aroma: intense, fresh and sweet lemony-citrus - brighter, fruitier and more rounded than lemongrass, with a soft floral-fruity sweetness and a light green edge. A sparkling, long-lasting lemon note.

Uses: a workhorse fresh-lemony note in perfumery and especially functional fragrance - soaps, detergents, candles and household cleaners - where it holds its citrus character far better than lemon oil. In aromatherapy it is uplifting and calming, used for stress, low mood and as a natural insect-repellent note. Also a key raw material for isolating natural citral.
