Vetiver Essential Oil is steam-distilled from the washed and dried roots of Chrysopogon zizanioides (syn. Vetiveria zizanioides, Poaceae) - the tall tropical grass known in India as khus, whose dense root network has been distilled for attars and cooling water since antiquity. Indian, Haitian, Indonesian and Réunion (Bourbon) origins each have their own character.

Aroma: deep, rich and earthy - damp roots, dry wood and a trace of smoke, lifted by a sweet-green, slightly citrusy top from khusimol, and settling into a long, balsamic, almost nutty dry-down. Complex, dry and unmistakably natural.

Uses: one of perfumery's most important base notes and fixatives - the backbone of classic chypres, fougeres and modern woody-vetiver masculines, and a natural anchor for oriental and amber blends. In aromatherapy it is the "oil of tranquillity", used for anxiety, stress and sleep. Also used in attars, premium soaps, candles and incense.

  • Botanical name: Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty
  • Plant part / method: dried roots, steam distillation
  • Key constituents: khusimol, vetiverol, alpha- & beta-vetivone, vetiveryl acetate (sesquiterpene-rich)
  • Note / family: base - woody, earthy, smoky
  • Blends well with: sandalwood, patchouli, cedarwood, bergamot, grapefruit, lavender, rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, black pepper, cardamom

Safety: non-toxic and generally non-irritating; may stain fabrics - dilute before skin use.

Available in 100gm, 500gm, 1kg & 5kg. 100% pure, undiluted essential oil - no carriers, no synthetics.
